Tuff break rub

Whats the best way to remove break rub from white Skyways?

fine graded sandpaper

Two ways

You can wash them and see what comes off, but if it's black brake rub or so ~ this means that when the rubber gets hot it leaves lines on the rim + mix this with dust and dirt and it ingrains in to the rim  


you can sand it down/off with a high grade wet and dry 600 - 800 - 1200 onwards till it's all gone and a nice smooth finish is there - don't rush it and take care - the best results come from time taken and just working each grade at a time

the other way is a Razor/Stanley blade - you need to keep it at a 45% angle (blade facing out or at the back going forward ) and pull the blade along with a bit of force that it scrapes off the top of the rim - be careful as it can slip and cut a line into the rim or your hand - best to practice and know your fingers are feeling - do it out side as loads of bits come off

  you still get a dirt line with white pads - but it does help  or just ride it around in the lounge on the carpet

Off to B&Q for me in the morning... Thanks for the advice. You wouldn't see the cuts for ink on my arms anyway...

don't forget chris that it need to be a high grain - the rougher the sand paper the hard the job as it leaves hair lines that are twice as had to get out

pleanty of elbow grease - take yer time - like yer ink, it take a skilled hand to get it right

i,ve used bar keepers friend that did the job with very little effort, damp cloth and a little of the powder and a few rubs started taking the brake rub off no problem.

Went for a blade to get the stubborn rub off then a super fine paper block to do the rest.  Pushing down on the block was nice as it shapes to the contours of the wheel.  Left me with arm ache but was worth it

try doing a couple of mags from start to finish  it's a killer

Can you get this sort of thing (sanding block) as an attachment for a drill? Would take no time then or am i being  not to mention lazy 

I've got 3 more pair that need doing...

Hard work shows, the fakes from the pro's 

i guess you could set some thing up - but a set of mags from start to finish on the rims would take less then a hour i would say ! but also depends on how well you do the job

it's not easy and can take along time - it like a old surfer shaping a board, it takes time but shows in the end and you also have a sense of achievement



can you get ink done with a jackhammer ?

I've had ink done thats felt like it! 

You're right doing it by hand gets the best results and the sense of achievement was pretty good too
