Right so i just got back from picking up some Motomags - in very great shape bar one web snap/ missing

pic's up in the morning or so but a couple of questions

Who is good at fixing the web part /welding ?
Does any one have any spare web part that could be used to welded back on ? pretty please

Now cleaning them up - two ways to go - very light clean/polish ~ just so they shine a little bit but not too much ~or~ polish them up to match the chrome / can be done but hard work > so which of the two ways should i go ? let me know please

I recon a light buff or maybe a walnut blasting. Motomags look crap polished in my book

I saw those on t'bay, wondered who nabbed them.

Don't polish them up though, they were not built or meant to look that way and you will imo completely ruin them.

I like/love polished stuff but it's gonna be so hard for me not to keep going on these - they are clean, but i guess i just want them to be s bit more cleaner looking with a slight shine but not super polished

Yer had them on my watch list - thought i may as well ask if Nick had a price he would let them go at - he got back to me with a offer i couldn't refuse

And as the wife and i were near him looking at baby stuff, i got to pick them up - job done

I was surprised no one else put offers in - i think some thought it was under the radar and would put a small bid in at the end

They are sat in front of me - well one of them is on the goose sat in the lounge next to the TV in front of me - they need a clean but the more i look at them it's clear that they don't need to over polished (although would love to see what they look like mirror polished ) just don't know what to use with out going to far - peek, yes but only light i'm thinking ?

Comes up often this one , but I think I've found the solution

Bendy put the wheel with the sprocket at the back end and the other should just fit in between those two long pieces of steel at the front

i don't think you can weld them as i think they have a high content of magnesium or some other high flammable stuff. the best thing i've seen on other restored motomags is araldite for alloy's. i've seen pics of someone in Oz doing this.

Clean them up first, you might want to give polishing them and fixing them a swerve.

Autoglym motorcycle cleaner brings alloy and metal up well without polishing.

like i said above you'll have to get another part of web and cut to fit then use araldite.

Just an odd thought but one way to repair the webbing, barring the obvious replacement with another piece, might be to cast a mold of the section you need from elsewhere on the wheel in plaster of Paris.
Then with the mold clamped in place over the missing section fill it with either lead (the easy option) or aluminium (a bit harder to get to melting point but easy enough with the right torch)

cheers mate I did think of this way first but ! - would the alloy after smelting be strong enough to ride ? what impurities it would have and how long before it snapped - it would work if it was for a show queen - next would be to match it up in could and pattern - the original webbing already has the same structure and it may just be to cut and shut it with using the stuff above link (cheers rodriguez

) then it could be sanded off and smoothed in

just a thought so far ?

any one do this before ? any other ideas so i can see what is what before i do any thing ?
