I can not remove the crank from my frame, as the pedal spindle is stuck on the non drive side. Tried everything from WD40 to placing it in a strong vice.
Any ideas?  :-\

Awkward with it still in the frame, but try and clamp the crank in your vice, spindle pointing up, correct size spanner on the pedal spindle ( with other end cut off spanner if needed,) bit of pipe/pole over spanner, hold and walk backwards! getting it hot will help too, but not too hot if its chrome and you are hoping to use it, it'll go blue.

Good luck, it will come off, the only one that has ever beaten me was on a 3 pc, that someone had cross threaded 2/3rds of the way in, fook knows how they got it in that far, but I had to get the crank glowing to remove it. and now I have a baggy pedal boss!

Might sound obvious, but dont forget cranks are left and right hand thread!! Are you undoing it the right way?

Yeah I was thinking the same ratty.
On the chainring side it is anti clockwise to undo.
And in the non chainring side it is clockwise to undo (as this side is left hand thread)  :daumenhoch:

Another way, if slightly destructive, is to use a dremel with disc cutter and cut around the pedal, only 0.5-1.0mm, so there is a slight gap between the crank arm pedal boss and pedal axle shaft, then unscrewing it becomes super easy.

dont try it if your desperate to keep the pedals in good condition though

pour coke~a~cola over it - the coke will eat into the rust or dirt that has built up to seal it - wd40 will only sit on top and not penetrate into where it need to go

see if you can get it to sit in some coke which will be better  ;)

Thanks for replys.  :)
Given the above ideas a go with still no joy.  >:(
When I look the pedal it looks like its on so tight its crushed into the crank, also it does not appear to be on quite staight.  :tickedoff:
Giving the coke idea a go now.  :-\
Think if this doesn't work I will have to grind the crank off.
Will keep you all informed on progress.

I've had a problem with a stuck/rusted crank arm

Tried the coke...I think that could have loosened it  ???

Next I tried the MAP Gas torch...................  :daumenhoch:

I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

perhaps try Wurth "rostoff ice" and freeze the spindle.

This may sound daft but i  find that tightening first to break the 'hold ' and then turning off , works nearly every time .

Tighten the crank in the frame so it doesn't wobble. Put the arm with the pedal level, forward. Place your foot on it, at the same time use a 15mm spanner & pull towards you whilst pressing down with your foot.

heat up the crank arms around the pedal sharft...then it should come off and undo no worries............had the same problem trying to get off some shimano dx pedals that had been on a bike for 20 years.....goood luck mate.

Tried that :( someone has cut the bearings out so it still wobbles in the cups.  >:(

Here is what I do. This WILL work.

Take the pedal to bits from the outside so you are left with a pedal spindle stuck into a crank arm.

Then, clamp pedal spindle TIGHTLY into a good quality and well mounted vice so that you have the whole frame and the other arm sitting on a horizontal to the work bench.

Three ft length of scaffold Scaffold bar (or similar) on the other (drive side) crank arm.

Pull hard.

I tried everything possible, but did do the sensible thing and left the whole crank arm on for someone else to try, thanks for your help :).
Sorry Radsters :-[

 :wtf: ???

I'm not seeing the spindle bolt holds where the spanner goes ?

it looks like it's inside or some thing on top of it ?   let us know what you see there as the pic's don't quiet pick it up ?

if you couldget a spanner on it then locking the crank in a good vice and using a long pole on a spanner to gie more torque would do the job i would have said  - but looking at yours it's strange ?

only way is to cut the crank off with a drimmel and cutting it off in sections (not easy with out fooking up thread of the spindle)

mmmm ???

I put the pedals back on but the bearings are missing, so the pedal body has covered the bolt. The pedals are in great shape so may get some more spindles. :-\

more torque then - big lever and well held down - will and should do the job - it just needs to brake that seal

try leaving it in coke over night again - then  big vice and then long spanner or pole for more power  ;)

Get a 0.6mm cutting disc for your grinder and carefully cut 30 degrees across the crank end sort of one side to the other makeing sure only to go as deep needed , then you should find it will come out as the circle has been broken . The treads may have a small cut in them but that will not affect its performance  .  Just think of it as cutting a nut ( the crank ) off a bolt ( spindle ) .
