Skyway tuff question, History link added
« on: March 23, 2012, 10:29 PM »
Trying to build a replica of the Torker I had stolen as a kid. Got the bike for Xmas 85 and had it for 2-3 years, At some point I ended up with a set of skyway's on there. I'm sure 1 was plastic hubbed and 1 was metal hubbed does this sound right for the era?
Cheers
Gary

Another question, Just bought a set and after closer inspection I'm not sure they are a pair. They have different Pat. numbers which I can understand as they are different. But the rear has the Pat number stamped in the braking surface and the front on 1 of the webs. They are for a rider so it doesn't really matter.
But has anyone done a history of Skyway wheels. Like people have done with frame numbers and Haro plate's (I miss V.Noah) Some way of dating the wheels?
Cheers
Gary

Gary, the real early ones had the serial numbers stamped into the rims and often have steel hubs instead of allow flanges (*snigger*) pat numbers on the inside of the wheel (webbing) was on the later models.

that's what i can remember anyways.....could be wrong though mate  :daumenhoch:

gaz you can tell the steel ones as they generally have a rounded bulg on them and the flanges are square going to the wheel rather than star shaped (if you know what i mean)

front is steal hubbed (note the bulge and squared flanges)

Alloy hubbed front (no bulge and kind of sherrifs badge style flanges)
