STRIKA RESTO
« on: April 03, 2012, 01:34 PM »
O.k i know its not a proper BMX,but i recently bought this old raleigh Strika off the bay for £30 as it was only round the corner from me and was the first bike i owned.I didnt really know what i was going to do with it,but figured i'd probably restore it eventually. My mate said that he wanted to ride it round 'bug jam' this year so i set about it a couple of weeks ago,but decided to make it a bit unique and give it a freestyle bmx twist whilst still resembling the original bike.It went from this rather sorry looking state...

To this awesome beast!!Enjoy!!

Speclist now reads:
SHARP XC 1:11 grips
16" tuffs with coaster!
16" pork chop ST's
SKYWAY axle pegs all round
ODYSSEY SYSTEM 2000 brakes with RX-3 locking levers
unbranded freestyle platform peds
ACS chain
BIG CHROME BELL!!!

Looks odd but I like it.

I had a silver one BITD. Took the mudguards off and put blue tyres and grips on it.

Ha ha love it!  8)

I also had the 1st edition Silver one. Was my first new bike and the closest I ever got to a BMX until I hit 40! (my parents bought me a Halfords branded racer when i got a bit older, as BMX was just a fad - their words!  :( )

I cant remember that , it was probably the crank hanging out of it !! Remember leaving a great big skid up the street from the pedalback brake though ..

Thanks for all comments!I still have the chainguard/mudguards,but I took mine off bitd, before my dad could afford a bmx in an attempt to make it more like a bmx so i wanted to leave em off this time round. The original wheels were well fooked,i think it looks way better on tuffs!I know it's a bit of a 'frankenstrika' but it's also unique and different, and pushes boundaries a little, rather than a straightforward resto.Where's Kappy? He'd understand! :daumenhoch:
