Kuwahara E.T 30th anniversary limited edition bike
« on: March 25, 2012, 09:00 PM »
Who would buy one if they did one? (assume quality spec)

Sorry if i got your hopes up with the title  ;)
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

Just been watching E.T. On ITV2 and wondering this very thing. I think the horse has already bolted to be honest, as they did the 2002 reissue already. And did the new school Laserlite Team ltd edition in tribute colours.

I'd definitely be interested but it would have to be affordable and made in relatively high numbers for me to be in with a realistic chance of owning one. In an ideal world I'd also want it to be based on the KZ frame (non looptail) as per the actual ones in the movie, and with no E.T. Decals. Would be great if they did them in all the colours too, with the stripes of Michael's, Greg, Tyler and Steve's characters bikes, not just Elliot's colour scheme. Would take a serious collector and film buff to probably do that though, buying up some KZ-1 frames.

Cool fantasy though... :daumenhoch:

I got my Kuwie dealership a little too late for the anniversary models, but if they do another, I'm definitely keeping one myself....

They still do 'Gertie' I believe!!

I didn't realise that Ian. Do you know where do you get them from and how much?

They're overpriced for what they are, I saw one on a shop, complete bike for £500...

These latest KZ's are not available from the UK supplier for some reason   :(  They only tend to carry the race line (LL, Nova, and ahem Bravo)

I have just emailed the guy and asked him about me stocking a few....

Apparently the new KZ's may not be available as wordwide demand is not very high...   :(   The price is probably a big factor, as the retail works out pretty high on these...

Cheers

No worries...  They have been placed on order to supply the UK, but it's in the hands of the big wigs at the factory now... ::)

Also heard that the Laserlite's are being phased out...   :'(  amongst other things....

Cheers

Can i ask a stupid question-
In the film did they use those Kuwaharas from that line or was that paint job specifically for the film...?
I only ask as Ive never seen one with those colours without the E.T. logo...

American kids were polled on their favourite bmx brand at the time the film was being researched.
The answer came back Kuwahara.
They used bear KZ frames and had them painted up in various combos for the film.

There have been a few done.
I think dannyd did one and steve costa did one last year.
To be honest i was thinking about this the other day and was looking for the video release date of the film.

I saw it in 83 after it's december 82 release. The next time i saw it i was working.

The E.T. bike image that most stands out in my mind is the one that appeared in BMX biweekley and Action bike.
The adds appeared in a few issues in 83. They obviously had et on them for the marketing, all had comp 3's on in those pics too even though the bike didn't come with them on.
That's why when i restored mine i wanted it looking like the add.

To be honest if i owned a KZ frame i would want to build a KZ, after all they were the reason  Kuwahara got chosen for the film to start with. :coolsmiley:

I was inspired by one of the Elliot reps on here, so that's what I'm currently working on.  Actually, I have 95% of the parts already.  I think I landed pretty lucky!   I still have my original ET from '82, but always wanted one the same as the movie..   ::)
