Removing decal glue...
« on: March 25, 2012, 12:06 PM »
Finally got my bloody chrome TA! But some dumb twat has applied XL decals & its standard so have removed them but its left a load of glue.
Ive tried hot soapy water & glass cleaner but it hasn't had any affect.

So what's the best course of action without leaving shit loads of surface scratches from rubbing...?

Brake cleaner works ace and no danger of marking the chrome  ;)

Nail varnish remover off the mrs will work also on a soft rag or tar and glue remover from Halfords or any cap product place like asda even

I use isopropanol (can get it off ebay) about 3 quid for 250ml
whatever you have left over can be served with tonic water, ice and lemon for a refreshing summer tipple :daumenhoch:

WD40 or if that don't work get some nail polish remover.I've been nicking it off my girlfriend & mum for years & it's great for sticker glue removal but obviously don't use it on painted parts.

Yeah Rich, try the wd40 1st if not then the nail polish remover.i've had no problems on chrome so far & the stuff around now isn't as strong as the old stuff.just dab it on a cloth & rub a bit at a time & it should come off.it moves it down to one area then you can roll it off w/your fingers like sticky bogeys.  :LolLolLolLol:

So many options...!!!  :D

As a kid I used to have a rumage up my nose whilst in bed, roll it between my thumb & as it was dark I would flick it until I heard it hit the floor!!  ;D

i think white spirit is different from meths, i will say i've never used it on chrome but try a bit on a rag on somewhere on the frame that you can't see. on painted surfaces it removes the glue mega easy and what meths is left evaporates on the paint
