wheel lacing problem
« on: March 24, 2012, 04:15 PM »
acs z rim,acs low flange hub,asahi 194mm spokes,36 hole,laced 3 cross as in stidds guide.

had a go at lacing a wheel today, everything looks ok and i have compared to another wheel visually, all looking ok

however when i started to tighten the nipples at the end of the build i have ended up with(looking on the inside where the inner tube would sit)

2 spokes sat tight in there seat,2 spokes sticking out,2 spokes sat tight in there seat,2 spokes sitting out,  and so on and so on all the way round.

i have screwed all the spokes nearly to there limit in the nipple but not tight

when i spin the wheel it looks fairly true, but obviously i need all the nipples sat tight in there holes and flush.

how do i achieve this?

thanks in advance :daumenhoch:

Make sure that all the spokes are crossing correctly i.e. spoke over the 1st two spokes and under the 3rd.  Also make sure that you have the spokes on the left of the hub going to the left side offset spoke holes on the rim.  You can loosen off all of the spokes and then do the same amount of turns on each spoke to ensure you tighten them evenly.

Also look at my spoke calculation thread in the tech and restoration stickies section and see if you definitely have the correct spoke sizes.  I must say I never ever accept that a spoke size is 100% correct UNLESS I have done the calculations myself, trusting what other people say is a short road to trouble.

All the spokes are correct i think i may have tightened them wrongly, will loosen them all and try again,

Will also check the spoke size calculator :daumenhoch:

checked the spoke calculator and i reckon the spokes are too long as it comes up about 182mm so would need the 184mm spokes.

how do i do a 4 cross pattern?

i mastered the 3 cross pattern lol

So you spoke the first set as normal with 3 holes in between each spoke but on the second set of spokes you cross 3 spokes instead of 2 before you tuck under??
