Bearing removal on sealed OPC BB? PICS ADDED
« on: March 10, 2012, 07:53 PM »
Trying to strip down a frame I got today and it has a sealed BB on a OPC.  How do I get the bearing out on the non-drive side? I can use the crank to part push out the drive side bearing not all the way out though.
Is there a speacial tool, Dont fancy taking the grinder to the crank as I think it is a Sugino.
Help needed
Gary

i've always used the tip of a flat screwdriver and gently tapped out the bearing and cup in one go.

Wife is out working and taken camera with her. But got bearings out, Managed to get the drive side out completly, Then got non-drive side started. Bearing have a small lip all the way round. Had to put drive side back in abit.
Now run into another problem the threads on the drive side of the crank have worn and cant get the spider nut off. What size is the thread on the crank? Should be able to get a die and re-cut it enough.
Also one of the bearing is a rusty mess so dont think the BB is re-useable :buck2:

pics Gaz. most sealed bearings have codes on, so you can get replacements without buying a full BB, although it sounds like something unusual you have there, unless you are shiz at descriptions....

That sounds like them, The rusty bearing is going to have a soak in some de-greaser at work. It only had 1 rubber seal on the outside.

i got the pic off the museum, the writing looks like Genbearco though :-\

Normal 6205 bearings measure 52,25,15mm
that wouldnt fit into the bb shell(51.50MM),bit tight, but with some ground off, would be a nice fit, hence the lip :daumenhoch:

Get pics up :D

Here's some pics,  It is a Sugino crank, Not stamped on arms though and no year date. What I thought was worn threads I think is the remains of one of the tophat nuts, You can also see the rest of it in the bearing if you look close at the pics.
Also the tab washer is huge. Might be beyond salvage.

Any idea where I might get a new thin top hat nut to replace the destroyed one?
