Coke... it's the real thing!

I just got some replacement dust/end caps from the bay for my sugino 400 crank and was absolutely gutted when they arrived as they were dull as anything.
I tool a punt and put them in a glass of Coke over night and in the morning they came up good as new and were shiny minty fresh...result!!! Has anyone else used 'the real thing' to clean/restore any other old bmx parts? What would it do to crome ?
Any thoughts people ?

coke is fine by it's self as it eats rusty parts and can loosen bits that oil can't get to - so does vinegar

foil scrapes the shit that the coke brakes off and then by rubbing it over the chrome parts, build up and the foil gets harder as it bunched up, and then leaves hair line marks over the surface 

for polishing up - peek and a goddards cloth or other soft paste polishes - NOT AUTOSOL  that is a harsh paste
