Skyway TA history lesson

Can someone give me a history lesson on the T.A...i.e curved/straight brake bridge,USA/Japan produced, most desirable etc.  cheers in advance.

japanese produced are k serial from early 83 ( could have been late 82 )
straight bridge only 84
all desirable tbh some say straight bridge as they are only 84
bound to be anomolies as with all brands
xl's were only produced in 84

The best one to get your mitts on is

 a CHROME 1984 straight stay T/A XL with 2nd gen graphite Tuff wheels

never produced an 85 and all the 86's were made in the last 10 years

Ebay was full of the 86 ones a few years back. They was the ones with the knurling (spelling) on the wrong sides on the drop outs if i remember

There was a prototype T/A  frameset without the arrow shaped cutouts on the drops 


but weren't the anniversary repops like this also, fortunately they're stamped and were only white ,,where I think the proto was chrome

as far as i know all the 86 t.a's are actual 86 made,ed ferri bought them from skyway all boxed and in storage for 20 odd  years,there was a thread over on the museum a while back where he confirmed this with pictures too

It was all tubing and drops made in 86 still in the factory

but welded and assembled in the last 10 years as Bob said ,,I thought

Munners had one and there was a big thread about it on here around  5 or 6 years ago

I think they were made/welded together in approx 2004

using materials and tubing from 1986

Yeh im sure it was old tubing welded more recent. As i said i remember the drop outs being all left hand or something like that

i know this is the common theory christian but the man himself blew this away with photographic evidence so make up your own minds,i guess we will never really know unless someone comes up with an 86 loft find

i had an 86  which belonged to meticulous and before that phantom photon(iain),he said that you could tell it was a genuine 86 cos it had a proper left and right dropout not two lefts or right

UNLESS Sam filed down the dimples on the dropout inner 

and centre punched them all back by hand on the outer side

They didn't all have incorrect drop-outs.

I've been on the hunt for a confirmed 85-86 Skyway TA for years now. I'd be interested to see this photographic evidence of Ed's but i've been posting this claim around the forums for yonks and am yet to see proof. Do the photo's show the date on the frame? who's to say they're not a load of boxed 83 or 4's?

TBH why would Skyway stop making TA's in 84, miss a year then start doing them again in 86 when we know they still had a few left some of which DBI used. None of the confirmed DBI frames i've seen were 86's.

I'd be happy to be proved wrong but i still think if you have an 86 it's new skool.
