My Forking Forks are too short.....help!!
« on: February 07, 2012, 08:31 PM »
Bought these ET forks around six months ago off a member on here. Had the frame and forks "meticulously" painted.......(u like what I did there?)

Been collecting all the other bits for it and came to build it tonight and the forks are too god damn short!!!!

Can't believe I never noticed.  :idiot2:

Anyways I can't fit the bloody headset properley as no where near enough thread......any suggestions chaps?

Regards Steve

Fook they are short, what about a hatta headset? Don't they sit a little lower?  ???

If it's just going to be for a show bike, get another pair of old fooked forks & cut off a piece of the threaded steerer & screw it in so it buts up to the piece on the forks, then screw the rest of the headset in, then the stem will hold it all together  :daumenhoch:

Or if you are going to ride it, get an old pair of forks, get the steerer tube cut & welded onto it  :daumenhoch:

Genius...thanks for that, makes complete sense to me.  :daumenhoch:
It is only a show bike so that should do the trick....

Thanks boys.  :-*

I think the only option is to cut and shut the fork steerer. But do it as far down the forks as possible as ideally a sleeve should be inside the join. It needs to be near the bottom as you need to be able to fit your stem down the steerer tube.  :daumenhoch:

another stupid way would be to cut the headtube on the frame down, it probably wont be enough but then at least you'll have matching fooked f&f.  ::)
