I remember doing something similar to this in metal work at school about 25 years ago so this may not be 100% right but it's the way I remember it.

You start by cutting the rivet to size, leaving a bit to shape into the round, you shape it initially with the ball of an engineering hammer, then used a tool called a rivet punch, (it is like a punch with a round hollow indent at the end to make the round on the rivet) you needed two rivet punches, you put one into the vice, put the round end of the rivet into it with the end of the rivet to be formed sticking up, then put the other rivet punch over the end to be formed and hammered it to form a round.

Heat the rivets in the oven for 20 minutes in the oven and they will form better @ 200C.  Fit them within an hour of cooking them  :daumenhoch:

I measured the size of the existing dome on the calipers and its 1/4" .. so i think it's this one...  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260383225701&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_922wt_1141

I have messaged them to see if the 1/4" is the size of the dome it leaves or the size of the rivet shaft before its used. Either way they will have the right size one.  I'll let you know if its this one for sure when they get back to me  :daumenhoch:

Get some rivets and have a practice go or two, I remember the hardest part was rounding the rivet with the engineering hammer before you put the punch on it.

We defo need pics for this.

Right i got a Nippon here that i wanted to put a quick release on (i gotta get the mx's refinished first)
I got the snap rivet tool from ebay and the bits from porkchop.

I got the hammer out and lined the rivet snap on top of the rivet that i placed through the hole in the caliper and gave it a few smacks...

FOOKIN FORGET IT!!!!   ...  no chance are you going to set that rivet with the tool and hammer .. it aint happening.

So i have a friend that for some reason has a large industrial press so i go over there today and give it a go ... worked a treat!  But tbh i think the snap tool could do with being smaller as before the rivet head was roled all the way over the tool made an impression on the washer... so i have ordered the 1/8" size from ebay today and will try that.

However ... the quick release is now on, working perfectly and is going nowhere...

If i can perfect this with the new tool and anyone needs it done i can go use the press anytime i want   :daumenhoch:

After reading this I bought a 1/8" punch on ebay.
It arrived today and it is tiny  ??? It wont fit on the end of the rivet  :-[

Did it work for you or should I buy a 3/16" ??
Any help appreciated
Cheers
