Haro Fusion chainwheel on 2009 Freestyler
«

I have just bought a NOS Haro Fusion Chainwheel (thanks Jai!)it's going on a 2009 Freestyler and it's a fair bit thinner than the standard chainwheel on it, do I need a new chain and rear sprocket or will it be ok?
Cheers

Should be ok but you will probably need a top hat washer to make it fit

What does a top hat washer do? Any links to the appropriate one?
Cheers

22mm to 19mm reducer washer
Ebay our your local bike shop if you didn't get one with the sprocket
Did you get the pegs to fit?

Could be that it`s a 3/32 chainwheel and your current one is 1/8 so you might need a new chain & freewheel.

Yeah it is deffo thinner, I was worried about it slopping around on it. Looks like I may need a new chain and free wheel for it, does the free wheel come off easy or do I need a special tool?
Don't need a top hat washer though.
Didn't get any pegs yet, picked up a new front axle today, will order the pegs later.

What would happen if I just ran it with this chain?

New problem:-
Don't need a reducing top hat washer, but seem to need a thinner one or something....
Standard Chainwheel:-
Fusion Chainwheel:-
The washer is sub-flush on the standard wheel and proud on the Fusion wheel.
On another note, will I need to take a link out of the chain? as the fusion chainwheel is a 43t rather than 44t

1/8 chains are too big to fit on most 3/32 cogs. You can buy a freewheel removal tool or your LBS will charge a couple of quid.If the tophat is too thick you can just file it down.

dont file it down. just try it on. if it is out of line just pop it out and fit it on the other side!
as far as your chain is concerned it should be fine with either a 3/32 or 1/8th chain on it. it will ride fine. it also helps if the chain line is slightly out as it will have a little more movement.
you may have to take out a link. it depends on your dropout length and whether your running a standard link chain or a half link.
to be honest your thinking to much into these things. just get it on my son!

Shame you can't just take 1 link out, as 2 seems to of brought the wheel too far forward, works fine though.

It's better to have the wheel inwards towards the bb. Than almost hanging out of the dropouts. Also the brake blocks line up easier. Is the chain nice and free without any tight spots? Coz that is how it needs to be.

yeah the chain is nice and free, cheers for the advice regarding turning the washer around, worked a treat! I don't like grinding things down if I don't have too!
