TA project - Updated with a new picture 07/02
« on: January 25, 2012, 08:43 PM »
Just joined rad and some have asked to see my TA that i'm planning to restore. Its early days as I only have the frame, forks, handlebars , pads & stickers. I'm planning to strip the chrome off the frame and forks & get it powder coated white by superbike dan. I'm undecided on which handlebars I'm going to be using, but i'm swaying more towards the boss ones at the moment. keeping them chrome, if i do go for the skyway ones i will get them re chromed. I think the stem is pro neck but im not too sure as it looks like it has a replacement top. its in need of a good polish. And finally I've got some NOS pads & stickers. I'll keep posting my progress. cheers

Great first Project!  But what he said ^^^^^^^^^^

I'd get some proper Skyway bars or use the Boss ones.  A few sets for sale at the mo I think

No dont powder the chrome, there are loads of ways of polishing up what most people think is shot chrome, look for Bendycats thread called how the goose was cooked. he took an old goose that was preactically orange with rust and made it gleam

don't get me wrong I love a shiny chrome frame. But I think skyways look better in white.
I'm going to do a cruiser next and that I will definately do in chrome.
also does anyone know what year it is? i think its an 84 as it has a curved brake bridge
take a closer look at the chrome

If the chrome can be saved, then do it, but tbh I did the same thing with mine as I think they are more iconic in white  ;)

the serial will tell the age and should be stamped under the bb
straight brake bridge was only made in 84 so being curved it could even be k serial japanese made tbh

That's going to make one nice first build project   8)

If the chrome is shot at , whites the way to go . Tbh it sounds like you have made up your mind anyway  :D

It's your bike , do it how you want it and above all enjoy it  :daumenhoch:

Get yourself a 'site supporters' tag and then you can source and buy the remaining parts in the 'for sale' section  ;)

Looking forward to seeing the progress on this , keep us updated .

One thing is still niggling me though, what brings a 23 year old girl into old school BMX's  ???

TA's definitely look better in White, in fact I think painted/powdered frames are a lot nicer in general.

Good luck with the build, I'm sure it'll be lovely whichever way you go :daumenhoch:
