hi bobbbbsy
whenever i paint anything with rattle cans i always do the usual prep if its already painted sand it down (or use scotch brite pads ) then prime it i always use a heat gun on the frame before and during painting (i also heat the paint can )
. then when the primer is dry give it a light sanding then spray on the top coat also useing heat as you go .
do the same with  rattle can lacquer .
if the frame is bare metal then prime useing an etch primer .

If its a rider get a local powder coating firm to do it one in Sheffield I use charges £25  :daumenhoch:

If you add up your time + all the Paint it will cost alot more than that  :coolsmiley:

And it will be a lot tougher than rattle can  ;)
I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

as above, i pay my local powder coaters £35 for frame, bars and crank arms, lasts much longer than spraying it yourself and works out roughly the same cost without the agro
