BB Clicking
« on: January 18, 2012, 03:04 PM »
Hi, My cranks are making  a clicking sound every now and then, could anyone here tell me what it is and how to fix it? I'm a bit concerned that it may fall off or break while I'm riding.
 Thanks

It's either too tight or there's a bearing or 2 with flat spots  :daumenhoch:

Could also be the splines on your cranks if youre running 2 or 3 piece.

I thought my BB was clicking. New bearings, etc, etc, etc. It still kept doing it.  >:(

Turned out my rear sprocket was fooked.

You sure it's the crank and not one of the pedals?

Does it have the correct spacer between the cartridge bearings. If it isn't the right width the pre load from the crank arms against the side of the cartridge bearings click after a while. I would remove the cranks and the spindle and look at the sleeve to see if it butts up against both cartridge bearings. If there is a gap between the sleeve and the bearing you will need to ether fit washers or a longer sleeve.  This can be a problem when swapping cranks from one bike frame to another. Suddenly a perfectly good set of cranks from your old ride start to click in your new ride. I hope this helps. Cheers stu :daumenhoch:

def worth checking this - I thought I had a crank clicking problem and inspector bubbs found out it was just the pedals that needed a bit of grease  :daumenhoch:
