1st Build of 2012 - Mini Skyway
« on: January 01, 2012, 11:07 AM »
Call it the last build of 2011 or the first of 2012 because I was working on it just before and after midnight last night!

I originally saw the frame and forks for sale on RAD, but Skywayman beat me to it. So when the chance came up to buy it again a couple of months later I didn't hesitate.

Now, it might not be everyone's cup of tea, especially the colours of the seat and bars, but as the bike is for my 3 year old, I took him up into the loft and let him chose the bits to put on it. Needless to say, green is his favourite colour, and the seat was inspired by the fireworks last night!

Here you go. I hope you like it half as much as my lad  8) :

Unknown Frame and Forks with TA decals
Full size Skyway EZ bars in green with Skyway decal
Raleigh mk2 mini straight seat post with shim
Redline flamed seat - just like a firework I'm told!
Seat clamp welded to the frame (may decide to paint satin black)
Skyway black Grips
SR Stem - to be polished
Original No brand black headset
Tektro front and rear levers and calipers as per 25th anni
Black brake cables
16" Black Skyway Tuffs
White dice dust caps (to be replaced with Skyway)
Nylon washers
New Kenda Comp 3's 16 x 1.75
16t Freewheel
40t black sugino chainring - to be refurbished
Chain (to be fitted. ideally chrome and black)
Mini Burner mk2 Crank
Sugino Spider
Sugino Bolts
SR Pedals
Raleigh BB
Original ful Skyway padset

At some stage, the seat may be replaced with a mini black one I have in the loft. I had intended to paint the bars black, but may try to find a green colour match and get the forks painted green too. Oh, and add a chain, spray the chainring  and finish the rear brake caliper!

Sweet build! Bet your son will be pleased :daumenhoch: yeah I'd just change the seat, try and get a skyway grabber or a kashimax handler ;)

Right, I've been fiddling a bit more today. What do you think?

Chrome framestanders still to be fitted.

Is riding with nylon washers a no no then? I had heard from Neil that they wer OK to ride on?

You'll find nylon washers just won't hold enough .. they will prob slip.  a skyway hot seat would be cool on there  :coolsmiley:

Some more pics in the frost this morning. It's 95% complete. Missing the brake ferrules, cable crimps, and I've just bought some mini Skyway EZ bars in black to see how they look too ( ). I'm going to replace the tange grips too as part of the end of the right one is missing. The seat is so low because I forgot to higher it after my 3yr old was riding it in the front room with my help! He seems to like it this way "it's my favourite bike" BIG smiles for Daddy all round!

Right. I've done a bit more fiddling as I wasn't 100% happy with the mini CW bars. It's a long story, but the postman brought me some mini Skyway EZ black bars today. They used to be Bigbadsams and orange, but he sold them to Jaymz who traded them in at MK to Spen69, who got them powdered black and then sold them to Stevesredvxr on RAD. It took some detective work and a colour change on the way - but now they are finally mine!

Here are the latest pics. They were taken in the dark and haven't come out too good.

Here is the new spec:

Unknown Frame and Forks with TA decals
Mini size Skyway EZ bars in black
Raleigh mk2 mini straight seat post with painted black shim
Universal mini black BMX seat
Seat clamp welded to the frame
Tange white grips
Lightly polished SR stem
Original No brand black headset
Alun MX copy front and rear levers and calipers in black
Black brake cables and black cable crimps
16" Black Skyway Tuffs
Skyway TA dust caps
Nylon washers
New Kenda Comp 3's 16 x 1.75
16t Freewheel
40t black sugino chainring
Mini Burner mk2 Crank
Sugino Spider
Sugino Bolts
Black chain
NOS Victor beartrap pedals
Raleigh BB
Original full Skyway padset

I offered up the chrome rear framestanders, but they didn't look right as they covered the decals on the rear tubing, so they have been left off, for now! I think the black mini EZs look the business too! Thanks Stevesredvxr
