Right gonna see what you guys know and think about pivotal seat post and seats

I guess a seat and post combo is going to be lighter - but i would like to know if you have a pivotal seat - which post to go for in length, weight and compound

if a seat is being slammed or close why are there long post - is there a prob in getting a small length post ?

disscuss please  ;)

cheers B  ;)

Pivotal = easy to adjust/setup, light.

Anything will do (avoid steel tubing), just cut em down like you would normally if you want your seat slammed.

have used em in the past, they are much lighter than railed set ups.  I think the long posts are just for people who may want to have more height rather than slammed?  ???

Most (almost all) Pivotal posts are way short. You can get long ones but you have to hunt then out a bit.

Pivotal seats aint as strong as railed seats, and they are usually very small. But there are so many available you'll probably find one you like

Its way simpler, tidier and lighter than a railed set up. I prefer a railed seat but I dont think there are any nice micro adjust posts for railed seats (the "splines" are always so small and they slip when you land sitting on the seat.

I ended up using a railed seat on a pivotal post (one of the first MacNeil ones that you CANT slam!  ;)).

I just wondered if it doesn't matter if there is loads of post down the seat tube or just enough as the seat is going to sit low and not sat on till cruzing

is 75mm too short ? what would be the next size up if that is too uncool and low ? ???

My Subrosa has a lovely seat on it, the post on that is built in so no adjustment. The pivotal seat on my Hoffman is a Hoffman one and again is padded and comfy, I can't be doing with those little plastic ones!!
75mm does seem a little short to me.  :-\

i am a convert to pivotal.

i have been playing around with a wedge insert too. then i dont use a seatclamp.

works on the same principal as a quill stem, a longer bolt goes through the seat and down the post to a wedge, i cut 4 slots into the bottom of the post to allow for expansion, tighten up and hey presto

i use a 8mmx 125mm high tensile bolt.

 :)

a 75mm post will be run slammed, or as close, you always want 50-60mm of insertion depth, the more post showing, the more you want inserted, ooer!!!

I have a deluxe combo seat on my Alone with about 3 1/2 " of post showing, leaving 2 1/2 in the pipe. Its a good height, not too high to get purple bruises up your thighs, not too slammed so if you sit down you can't get back up, and low enough to not get laughed at by the kids!!

My first piv was over a foot long, I cut it down to 7"

I've got 26mm showing and 194mm down the tube. Couldn't be arsed to trim  :D

Always rode with the seat slammed anyhow, and like Alex said, railed tends to pop if you land with weight on the seat (although I've got a DK micro adjust from 1998 that's forkin good, but it's in the odd late 90's DK seat tube size - fits a General or SOB).

Im running a 135mm seasons post and have it set just above the max height mark. Fits me just nice without looking like i'm sat on a pogo stick

Come on then Bendy, what have you snaffled?  :daumenhoch:

Always thought they should have pins on the outside of the vice part of micro-adjusts, too much insto weight on em = rails spread and pap out the sides.....

This is the best pic I have on photobucket, and I can't be arsed to go in the lounge and take a new photo!!

Its not pivotal, but its what 3 1/2 inch of shaft looks like!!!

Still love my unique (cheers Ronnie) hutchesque seat clamp.
