hi bmxers   

does anyone know how to remove annodization "the ruler" reckons you can use caustic soda anyone had any sucess with this? an idiot proof guide would be great

how do i get it off a crankset without dissolving it do i wipe it on , steep it overnight dip it in or what also does it burn your skin ., fumes ect..

it burns your skin. it stinks. it hurts your nose.


fill a tub with a good mix of caustic, enought to immerse the part but not so big that you wast the juice.

watch it .

have tongs ready to grab it.

it will get hot( the liquid)

it will take no more than a minute to remove anno.

it may turn black.

this will easily polish off, with autosol, peek ets.

make sure you watch the item
if you leave it in too long it will totally dissolve.

from what i have heard/read it is pretty straightforward to do.

do it outside (woo-eee stinky)
don't leave it for long (it will dissolve)

wear goggles , follow the instructions in making the caustic, and be carefull , It works a treat and will remove any anno easily

and don't do what i did with some brakes and leave a decal on
as when you notice and remove the decal you have a nice coloured spot still underneath  ::) :( :D

i wanna do a 3pc crank , is there anyway i can mask the spindle / pledal  fittings cause i dont want to cause any play in these parts (i was thinking of beeswax or something)

just dont leave them in for long , seriously it comes off in seconds, i hang my part on wire and dip them in , alwys checking every few seconds , thats why i have to wear goggles , this stuff burns like a holiday in benidorm

I have never had a thread issue , but have had DX spindles come loose , but that was my first try and i left them in too long, as it wasnt anno , and wouldnt come off

BUT i never had this great site to ask  ;D
