BMX in Super 8 film
« on: January 10, 2012, 11:01 AM »
The film is supposed to be 1979. I can't really make out the bikes there .. thought there may have been a ripper at first but now i don't think so.  Some red alloy Tuff II's i think .. wouldn't 79 be too early for them?

Was it steel then?
I saw this the other week Terry and couldn't make the bikes out tbh.

Steel hubbed Tuffs could possibly date back to 79..

It's a well shot film - the plot itself leaves a lot to be desired though. The ending was pretty shit.

I'd imagine the makers would have to consult o/s collectors to get things like this correct though

I'd say the black bike is a 'Two Wheels Stroker'. Has that look about it IMO.

More cool 70's stuff here  :4_17_5: ;D

Yep, steel hubbed Tuffs date back to 79:

http://mauricemeyer.net/cgi/mm.pl?datafile=../general/BMX.txt&page=BMX/History%20of%20Skyway%20Tuff%20Wheels

i reckon they fluffed it  :LolLolLolLol: they look like second gen steelies on that bike ( shame shaped hubs as alloy hubs ) gen 1 hubs where around 79 -81 which are more square where the rivets are , gen 2  are 81 to when they done alloy hubs

gen 1 steelies - 79 -81 ( which should be on that bike)

gen 2 steelies ( which are on that bike)

One of them is Schwinn Scrambler I remember reading a thread over on the museum about it, the guy also helped source a couple more and there's something about a kuwi et in the film, toatally non era correct but speilburgs nod to ET or some shit like that

Yeah there is a kuwie-esq frame with a paint fade in the big blob of metal at the end of the film. I saw it at the cinema and thought it was ok, my kids loved it though.
