Wheels - recommend me a set!
« on: January 03, 2012, 06:35 PM »
Im progressing slowly towards the point of needing some wheels for my United build :daumenhoch:

So what is a good complete wheel set to be had for £250 max.

Obviously that rules out the likes of G Sport, but what about Cinema or Primo? What do you ride?

Cheers
T

If you want to go £250 tops:

Primo Mix Cassette: £100
Primo Pro N4 Flangless: £50
2 X Eclat Bondi Rims: £100

That'll last you for just about owt. Depends though on how much/where you're going to ride, if you run 14mm front, if you ride street/land heavy, if you ride brakeless/single break etc - you can also pick up some decent deals s/h over on bmxforums etc.

Ahh cool - those are bang on budget then. Im mainly riding mini ramp and street and still re-learning, but have been told that good wheels do make a big difference.

10mm front forks.

Odessey Hazards  whichever ones,   seem to be the standard ones to have , wheels seem to be real pricey nowadays with less spokes for your money  :LolLolLolLol:

be cool to get some pointers too , been thinking about a new set myself

Don't get me started on rims and tyres...... prices have shot through the roof recently. Who the feck wants to pay a nearly a ton for a G-Sport rollcage rim.....

There's some fella over at bmx forums selling a brand new Odyssey hub set (black) for £100 the pair which isn't too bad. If you're going to be doing a fair amount of grinding (or learning grinding) a flangless front is a decent idea - anything made from 7075-T6 is good.

Damn right though - the less spokes = more money ;)

Prices for everything have gone up lately.

I have a chrome Alien Nation rim which has been pretty good and they're still relatively cheap. A pair of those would keep you in budget. Don't forget spokes, they're not free!

If you'd like my opinion, find another few quid and get a Primo or Oddy wheelset.

Cinema are pinned though aren't they? You'd want to choose a welded rim if you could.

Think Cinema 777's are welded? Dunno though as not used them, and non of me mates run them.

Another tip - and it's just imo - don't bother shelling out loads for spokes - stick with normal butted (not double) as the weight loss is minimal, and doubles have more of a tendancy to ping when grinding (if you're as innacurate as me :) ).

Cheers for the PM Dubber.

It seems Cinemas Tungsten wheel set has welded seams.

You can get a Proper bike co wheelset for that money, with female hubs as well if that floats Your boat  :daumenhoch:

been using oddy hazard lites & they have been fine £250 would buy you the rims with an oddy vandero hub up front & a proper k7 casette at the rear (or equvalent for 100) it might hit a touch more though spoked & built up....shop around as deals are there at the mo in the sales  :daumenhoch:

cinema 777 rims are also good for the money.i don't know much about the eclat bondi rims....but they look awesome & are a tad wider.it depends which takes your fancy but all these 3 are good enough for sure  :)

Got to be Primo IMO - the most reliable hub fromo our experience in the shop (even over Gsport).

Don't go for the Cinema wheelsets...great team, average product.
