an interesting thread, and an issue that i've thought of on occasion. I would categorise my bikes as follows:

Peugeot black lion - made of steel, weighs a ton & came with no name parts and has as an 18 inch ish top tube = street.
Skyway T/A - with branded parts (sugino, tuf neck, kashimax, suntour, hutch). Although it has white wall street tyres on, I would say defo = race.
Hutch pro racer - with 3 piece cro mo cranks = race.

The difficult one for me is my MT racing 'Fox' - This has full cro mo frame & fork (i think), but came as factory spec with lee chi or chang star brakes. The top tube is over 19 inches long. I've replaced the brakes with dia compe and fitted a sugino crank & araya rims. - In light of the full cro mo f & f, and full size top tube I would put this in the race section.... What do you think folks? Your help would be appreciated, as i want to enter this at MK this year, but dont know in what category?

Thanks. Andy.

No question the "Fox SE" frame (full Cr-Mo) that you have is deffo a race bike. It shares the same frame and fork as the MT Racing UFO (which was the top MT race bike bitd). If I remember correctly, the bike you have was missing the original forks and now has a pair of Akisu looka likes fitted ?  :-\

Terry,

The Mods put an imense amount of work into the Bike Of The Year Thread, and it was discussed and agreed that your bike should be moved !

I am sorry that you feel it should have remained in the street section and also discussed it on here. That is why the comments thread is added, incase of any questions.

It is also very hard to 'Moderate' all threads, bit hey ho, we do our best !

Next year we will hold out a Londonhellboy section for 'unusual folk and their It don't fit bikes'  :daumenhoch:

Now crack on and get voting and stop going on like an old woman  :)

Thanks for deciding to have a Londonhellboy section. It makes me feel all warm inside and part the comminuty that you would honour me in such a way  :4_17_5:

As for discussing it on here, in the 'chat' section of Rad, isn't that what it is here for as I did not see many users using the comments section in BOTY  :daumenhoch:

As i see it, a bike could be categorised on its use- if you bought a frame that was made for or universally regarded as a race frame but spec'd for street & only used it as such, then it could fit both categories...
Standard Burner, Puch and so on were all aimed at the starters/council estate kid

Torker, TA, Pro Class, PK Ripper were all race bread.

As a 'council estate kid', I had a Torker and a Pro Burner but according to your wording, I should have had only a Burner or an Ammaco  :-\

I'm sure there are many others on here who grew up in a similar background  :daumenhoch:
