An old school "street" category is a little superfluous, until the rise of "street" bikes in the late 80's, early 90's, where bikes were modded to suit that style of riding.

Even though your old bike was, technically, ridden only on the street, I would put a Torker into a race category.  It was a race bike (by design).

Although that does raise the issue of bikes like the Piranha and Raleigh Burner.   So that brings us back to street as a category.  And therein lies the reasons for the category names.

after consulting with Rob I put my silverfox in street insead of race
figured that it should maybe go there since only the forks were cromo & it had copy parts on it, but either way I'm just happy to have it in one of the lists  :)

I am going to ride it at MK again though, except this year I might not sit down as I go round  ;D

As i see it, a bike could be categorised on its use- if you bought a frame that was made for or universally regarded as a race frame but spec'd for street & only used it as such, then it could fit both categories...

nope, that's not how it works...........otherwise you could have a VDC Changa in there as i only ever rode it on the street.

The catagory is based around what the original design/bike was aimed at.

Standard Burner, puch and so on were all aimed at the starters/council estate kid

Torker, TA, Pro Class, PK Ripper were all race bread.

Anyways, it's all done now  :daumenhoch:

Wouldn't a bike be simply how you'd intended to use it back in the day (or even today), unless it was aimed for specific use and advertised as so based upon is spec. :daumenhoch:

If someone has entered a bike into a section, shouldn't it be left as so because another persons opinion could differ?

so if i built a rep of eddies or bobs torkers does that mean they would have to go in the race catagory not the freestyle catagory?

i'll get my coat  :LolLolLolLol:

no

Oh ok, I was under the impression it depended on a mixture of things such as frame material, geometry and parts although I appreciate there were dedicated race frames manufactured.

There are bikes in the street section which shouild really be in the race section and bikes in the race section which should really be in the street section. ???

This is just my personal view though, im not ar$ed,but i can see why some would be.

What about a Diamond Back Silver Streak then? as that's what I had as a street bike when I was a kid.

Or would only a Diamond Back Viper be considered as a street bike as it was lower end?

You know what, I don't really give a Fook anymore........next year you can just have one long thread with them all in one category.  :daumenhoch:

What about a low end bike with better parts.

I've got an Ammco but I've got MKS Graphy's, Renthal Bars, SR Crank, Z rims.

Also I use to race it BITD but also I used it as a street bike.

How about a "Street bike but with better parts on it and sometimes you either raced or freestyled it" section  ???

 :daumenhoch:
I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

I rode my Cali on the street and at rOm but it was originally built for the younger racer. so what category would that go in?  :10_2_12: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

I reckon most bikes were ridden as street bikes back in the day, but wouldnt that make them Freestyle bikes? Unless you rode them home from school fast or away from the police then they were race bikes. Have to say Rob it was a tough call and i was against your point initially but after having read the full thread think you got the categories right.

But a Cali was built as a race bike, just not an out and out class act like the Pro Class or Supergoose. Just built for the younger/smaller rider.
