Hey mate

I have not seen one being sold for a couple of months but, towards the end of last year, prices were going up.  The last ones that I watched had quite a range of prices, typically:

£100 bargain price
£140ish normal price
£170 lucky seller price

Btw, Im only talking frame and forks.  Are you looking at a complete bike for just F&F?

They are nice bikes btw; my current build is a Reflex..

Ah, okay..  That makes it far more difficult to suggest a price without seeing the complete spec and pictures.  For example, one set of "MX" brakes could be worth £25, the next set £150, depending on model, condition, colour etc.  Multiply this by all the bikes components and you could be looking at a £250 Reflex or, a £1,000 Reflex..

You got any pics?

Ta,

Btw, if you fancy building your own Reflex, I just noticed this one:

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=137458.0;topicseen

@£95 including headset and custom decals (original decals are awful), this is a crazy cheap price!!  The decals alone would have cost £25ish; headset another £20 leaving £50 for the F&F.  MENTAL!!  :idiot2:

Just like punksico said, a complete bike would be very hard to put a price on without pix, frame & forks alone though they are certainly on the up price wise, espeacially if you want a NOS one, I've seen them go for as much as  £175 on ebay, I got mine for £90 NOS about 6 months ago, still in the process of building & sourcing parts, should be finished by March / April. By the way there's this one on the bay with no BIN price, it looks mint, check it out http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OLD-SCHOOL-AERO-REFLEX-FRAME-1984-PLUS-CRANK-/170755447464?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item27c1d15aa8

What they are "worth" and what they cost are 2 very different things.

hehe - me neither..  Makes me wonder if they were ever ridden BITD or, if they all just sat in a wharehouse, boxed, until 2009ish when they suddenly all appeared as NOS..

Couple of people had them, but they were super low end.

Hence why when they cropped up a few years ago, their 40 quid price tag was no surprise.

Their meteoric rise in "value" is a clear sign of the greed in the old school BMX trading world, and is also what will lead to its demise.

The Aero's we sold at Heff's were pretty much mid range builds or f&f upgrades to lower end bikes.  There is a kid that rides (or used to) at Hayes BMX track that rides his dad's old Reflex from Heff's and that's the only survivor I think I have seen.  It's been upgraded/changed over the years though!

+1 on this comment...

2009 ish ?

AlansBMX ran out of selling them a while before that I think ,, he was definately selling them from 2005 to 2008

He used to se;; them on Ebay as "Grendel" maybe 1 or 2 a month or less ,,at £29 buy it now frame only

and £40 f&f as Graham's already stated

Sometimes in auction frames would only reach £19.99

AlansBMX and Skatepool obviously got there supply of the reflex's from Shiner , who must,ve had a hundred NOS boxed ,,easy   :shocked:

After doing a fair bit of research before I actually bought a Reflex, I think the following is pretty fair;

1. I was heavily into BMX from 1980 to 1985 & BITD I had never seen a Reflex although the brand aero was very well known, I owned a pair of zytecs.
2. I think Aero were very late joining the frame & forks bandwagon & by '86, BMX was sadly very much all but over, this could well explain how shiners came to owning a warehouse full of NOS F&F's.
3. What is fact though is that when Reflexes 1st came out in mid - late '84, they were certainly not marketed as budget frame & forks, if you wanted a budget frame & fork upgrade from your burner or team murray, you bought a DP freestyler for £65 F&F's including tange headset, Reflexes on the other hand retailed around the £150 mark for F&F's only - so certainly not low end, budget or remotely cheap, Haro masters around the same time were retailing for around the £180 mark, I know this as I have owned both the DP freestyler which was bought from county racing in Pontypridd & a Haro Master that came via mail order.
4. The quality of the welding & chrome on the Reflex frames is superb, the decals however are truely awful & when I finish my build in around 3 months time, I will not be applying the original decals, if Del's not back up & running by then (does anyone know if Del's back in business?), I will be leaving my Reflex naked.
5. At the end of the day, the Reflex is a very nice frame & forks, cost twice as much as a DP BITD but came into the game too late to gain huge popularity, if anyone is thinking of getting one, my advice would be to snap one up now, NOS ones seem to be getting rarer, its a personal choice thing, you either like them or you don't - simples :daumenhoch:

Cheers

If you don't like the Aero decals ,

I remember when they were churning em out again in 2005 people were stickering em up as GT Performers  ::)

Not a bad looking frameset , there's a lot worse

Only gripe with them is those painful rear chainstay jagged foot  stands , take a bloody grinder  to em  >:D  :LolLolLolLol:

Catch your heals like mad  on em  :crazy2:

Like you say DP Freestlers were £74.95 .

Reflex's twice the price , but were they twice as good  ::) you decide  :)

What they are "worth" and what they cost are 2 very different things.

exactly right!as far as i see it,its a simple supply and demand situation.Nostalgia seems to be the main driving force for this hobby. Most people from what i have read who 'rediscover' BMX want to build the bike they had bitd or a bike they dreamed of bitd and will stop at little to have this small slice of their history, myself included. As interest in the 'hobby' grows, there were only a certain number of framesets ever produced.Once demand is greater than supply, which looks to be about now,its inevitable prices will rise.ive seen these go from 3-400 to 800 odd for complete bikes on the bay.It doesnt seem to matter if something was shit or not bitd,if there are enough people gooey-eyed for it!Cant remember what these sold for bitd, never seen one close up enough to comment on quality etc. :daumenhoch:

They are good framesets.  Nice size and shape, but the rear standers are a bit hoopty.  No real problem though.

My gripe is that they were costing 30-40 quid shipped a few years back, and now they have ballooned in price with the "old school bmxers pay more" philosophy.

The price of stuff was getting to me halfway through my first build. It must be way more frustrating for someone like yourself who has been in the game for alot longer!I'm just going to finish my rider now and im stepping out of building anything for awhile!I need to address other areas and hobbies in my life which have suffered hard since i got back into this!I'll start building again when im in a better position!doesnt mean I'll stay away from here though! :daumenhoch:
