I'd say there are plenty who can weld on here, Phil Sawzal's work is second to nine though so might be worth giving him a pm, no idea how busy he is etc.

Bet Phil will be pleased to hear that you think he's the 10th best at it, so who are the 9 people better than him ???

Cracked weld doesn't sound too healthy that. Even if you do remove the damaged weld and put another run around the head tube then it would need to be heat treated afterwards if the frame is 4130 to get the strength back into the tubing as the heat from welding would have affected it. This would be especially critical at the head tube with the high stresses it will receive.

Sawzall has computer problems and can only get online in very small doses.
One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.

+1

If you intend to use it in anger i would be very wary. I would only use it for cruising round on unless you can increase the surface area of the weld with a larger version of the plates they put on the downtubes these days. May not be pretty though :'(
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

You can weld 4130 with a mild steel filler rod with Tig so any general fabricator who is half decent at Tig could repair it but as I mentioned it would need heat treatment afterwards to bring back the strength to the heat affected area if you wanted to ride the bike for its intended purpose.

Just pop in your local fabricators with it and ask if they are set up for mild steel and can they weld it up for you.

Hi Captain

Did you have any luck with your weld?

I've been looking for a welder for months. I've a mongoose FS1 with a crack in the seat tube:
The crack was hidden under an industrial sized clamp on eBay.

I'm in South West London, but more than willing to travel to save my goose.
Any help would be really appreciated.

Cheers
