Well when the mark l was released in 1959 they came with drum brakes all round, these fail badly, so October 1961 7" disc brakes were fitted to the fronts of Cooper models. March 1963 saw a marginal increase to 7.5" front discs. They remained the same until around 84 when the leap to 12 inch wheels [opposed to the original 10 inch] and the intro duction of 8.4 inch discs which appeared throughout the range from then on. The rear drums remained pretty much unchanged. After market 'Mini fins' drums were available as an alternative to the standard drums, these allowed better cooling and more efficiancy
