Has anyone got one of these kits for doing spokes? If so would you do some for me please?!
Got 194's that need cutting to 188 & 186...

Yeah but he was using Pro class rims. My mate tried both lace patterns & it didnt work. John said he's got some 184's but they have long nipples so may work...

I know but its really frustrating as Ive had em for what seems like ages & could get the majority of the 2 bikes built as soon as these bastard things are sorted!

You will not find a tap and die set for spokes as the spoke threads are actually rolled by a machine not cut, this rolling ensures that no material is removed when threading the spoke (which would weaken the spoke). When you tap something it cuts a new thread which removes material.

You can buy spoke cutting/rolling machines but they are very expensive.

The biggest problem with lacing wheels is too many people throw spoke sizes out without any thought, to do it correctly you should measure the rims and hubs correctly and put these measurements into a spoke calculator and then buy the right size for the job.

I have laced 100's of wheels and I have never, ever just laced it without taking all of the correct measurements beforehand to ensure I use the exact spoke length.

What spoke length calculator do you use Sean? Im always looking for a better one.

I use these 2 at the moment but sometimes I dont think theyre that accurate.

I found a really good one a few months ago but Im having trouble finding it again.

The last time I used these 2 I got different spoke lengths using the same rim, hub, etc measurements (they were very different though not just a few tenths of a mil). In the end neither of them were correct and the spokes I actually used were somewhere inbetween.
