Picked these up from fellow rad member as a project to see if i could restore them, they were pretty rough when i first saw them. $:-\$
The freewheel was rusted on and the hubs were seized.

Then after stripping the hubs off and sorting bearings, mags were put in bleach for couple days and then cleaned, hubs wire wooled and bolted back on after a little polish up.
Now looking like new!
This is the front one so far.

Now i am waiting for a new bearing on rear as had to smash it out when putting in vice to remove freewheel. Hubs had a polish and will post up a pic of rear once put back together.

I had the first versions with thinner spokes! Acorn Magnums? they were soooo flexy... I hope these a better.

Thats the advantage these have over tuffs, at least you can remove and replace the hubs without destroying them

Cheers chaps im glad with the end result !
Also finished some alloy hub skyways today but although they come out nice they aint as white as these.

Had to seriously greese up the hub to stop it being attacked and it worked.
May have to go back in for another bleaching with fresh bleach to see if it makes any difference.

Well done!you achieved much better results than i had!I had a set of 'creamy beige' acorns which were still nos and not nearly as bad as yours were!I had them in bleach for 5 days and they just laughed at me!I followed the resto sticky to the letter and the wheel in the sticky is an acorn too albeit an ammaco stamped one.I gave up and sold them on!!

they come out real good.
i got a set of aero zytecs im just about to have a go at bleaching.
if i remember though they were more of an off white than these were.
spin forever though.skyway should have gone down the sealed bearing route years ago.

You'd have thought they'd have been in there first with sealed hubs $:-\$ ,,,,but

Skyway did sealed bearings in their 1984 3rd gen Graphites,Dave

There were 3rd party companies who made sealed hub conversions for Tuffs that were bolted on too

Those Acorn's came up a proper treat

you had to be posh to afford them fookers back then though lol.
i remember a place just up the road from where we lived in penkridge started doing a bolt in conversion but never lasted long $:-\$

I got a black pair of these on my GT, roll really smooth, the rear has never run true, but they take my weight OK. Also just got a NOS pair in cream (Shop soiled) for £40 off the bay, I'm hoping to get them whiter, with the bleach method, these will go on my boys ride (Or he'll get the black)

I dont know if it is relevant but i used 50/50 bleach to water, 6 litres of each. was a strong mix, then rubbed em down with scourer and fairy powerspray.

Then rinse and dry.

They sound like the ones i got!from bankrupt_bike_parts??I used neat bleach,8 litres of it i think and still no result!!report how you get on dude,be interesting to see if you have a better result!!

They are from the same place, got the coaster brake on mine (which I hope to take off) I'll try the bleach out and let you know how it goes.

No getting a good result with the bleaching $:-\$

I think the trick is to use decent branded bleach
