Right, i thought i'd got away with customs charges on my Goose frame but i have received a Fedex letter this morning informing me i owe £80 charges.

But........they delivered the frame a week ago now, i didn't think they release items until the tax payment has been paid? what do i do? am i legally bound to pay this or is i a case of, got the item so fook off!

The same thing happened to me Pickle but I havent released the funds and waiting to see if they chase it. I had my goods and received the letter 8 days later I will let you know how it goes but upto you if you pay immediately or hold fire

I wasn't being smug, thank you very much! but i thought they didn't release goods until they get the customs payment? so thought i'd escaped it.

Just had a butchers at the Fedex site - they do charge you after you've recieved your item

They've already payed customs on your behalf, and add a 2.5% admin fee, sadly - page 2 here:

i guess at least you get your item quickly instead of Royal (fook up) Mail holding onto it for a month before contacting you?

yeh i had the same with fedex. reason they dont worry is if you dont pay it will be passed straight on to customs and as said above you dont want them knocking your door. im doing a kitchen for one of them next week and the stories he has told me they are god like.

I've had this issue with FedEx. After ignoring a couple of letters from them, I got a letter from a debt recovery firm threatening all sorts of stuff so I had to pay up. I'd rather customs got on my case than bailiffs.

Rob, if you're a bit strapped for cash I'll pay the £80 but I want the bike f&f as security...... let's just hope I don't "loose" it before you pay me

I love that frame mate - no matter what you paid for it, the end result will be worth it mate as it's a keeper

I had this with a Christmas present last year, they never chased it up

fast forward 6 months and the same happened with a set of Landing Gear forks from the states. I didn't pay that either. They never chased.

Just so you know, no bailiff could touch you or debt recovery firm nail you. You would first have to enter into a contract for that to happen. Only hm c&e can have your pants down. Hence the reason why royal mail/parcel force always take payment upfront. Typical Americans thinking they can just sidestep British contractual law. Because your neighbour signed, and she didn't sign that she had read the t&c and agreed to enter into a contract, they couldn't even nail them. They could drag you to court, but they couldn't throw costs on before proceedings because of the lack of contract. Contract is everything in these matters.
They can threaten you with all kinds of nonsense, but when push comes to shove, its just Bs and means nothing. They would even struggle to get costs due to the lack of contract. Your not going back on your part of a deal because you never agreed to one, you never instructed fed-ex to make any payments on your behalf, you were not informed at time of delivery that you would be incurring costs.
Very odd that a foreign company can operate within the uk in such an ass about face way.
Just you go and try and get money out of somebody without a signed contract, but based on you just saying they owe you some money and see how far you get.

I had the same thing with a fuel pump I bought for my golf from the states .

I didn't pay at first , then after 3 more letters I phoned them . It was real and I did
end up paying them .

send Fedex a letter thanking them for their letter, and charge them £80 for it. theres no law saying you cant

then if they refuse to pay you , you refuse to pay them. eventually they may take you to the small claims but you can say your waiting for payment from them. ::)genius

Had the fedex "yipeee" and "oh fook" scenario loads of times

Unlike Parcel Force / RM if they deliver then you have got a way with it, cos they do not release without customs paid.

FedEx however pay it for you first - think it's so they can keep their delivery date guarantee to their customer (the sender) but then they come to you for the dosh

Ain't much you can do but cough up Rob - it hurts but sh!t happens mate
