Using a rubber band wrapped round your Odyssey Pitbull caliper, or even your crap U brake if the springs were knacked.
Also, down here in Devon... the TRUCK WHEEL was a popular one. Did nothing for your wheel... but a satellite ring that extra spokes laced into that ' floated' around the hub flange was the way to go... perhaps Danny or Alex may have some pics???

This is what  I remember from the mid to late 90's, most of it already mentioned.
Anything primo or terrible 1.
dirt monster on the front, V monster on the rear.
Slam bars, redneck and pitchfork were the ultimate front end parts.
making grip "donuts" out of old mousepads.
Earth tone coloured frames (my new school ride is olive green  )
super bent brake levers to suit cut down bars
fat chains, hell yeah sprocket grinds!
having "trail style"
suicide no handers, i havent seen one done for awhile.
tripple wall wheels
drop nose seat, with the front trimmed

I duct taped a bunch of foam to my skinny old school style seat.
It was like knee glue.

Running purple ano parts on my race bikes was one I'd always do and for my freestyle bikes I'd always have atleast 2 Vision stickers and a couple of Poor Boy stickers situated somewhere on the frame/forks. I'd also run a Odyssey Gyro with Fishbone cables and also use my Kore Rusty pegs.
