Stupid pedal question time

I stripped some Odyssey trailmix pedals a few months ago. Got SBD to give them a new colour. About to put them back together and cant remember if the smaller bearings go on the inside or the outside

Worked it out, big balls on the outside
Tried big balls on the inside and the spindle wouldn't fit.
