Goose resto stage 2
« on: June 04, 2006, 01:28 PM »
Am I polishing a turd, cos thats what i thought when i stripped the paint , i figured i would have a go at getting some life out the original nickel before deciding what colour o would have to powder it, BUT maybe not , its no where near done but it looks promisisng

I will keep going i think and see what many hours polishing cam acomplish

Rich

Lol

Ok , so far i have stripped the paint , and started to polish , the first stage is to clean the crap off , i used a de greaser and then fairy liquid and hot water, this gets all the old crap off.
then give a good clean using autosol , not too much just to get it going , then i used Peek with a dremmel and the polishing attachments that come with it, I also use a bigger polishing mop on a drill , but find it skates and dings the frame.

once its starting to shine you can see how much plate you have left and decide how harsh a polish you can use , i have a fair bit left so am using autosol to really polish it , with dremmell . this is slowly taking layers of nickel off giving a good shine.

I will then use wonder chrome to clean off the residule as this is a good cleaner and will not remove anymore nckel

I have spent about 5 hours on it so far , and expect twice that to finnish.

I have agreed with myself to leave this one in its original finnish and not get it re nickeled , so i need to keep going to make it a real good  frame and forks, it will have a few bits of bare metal , but that kind of adds to the character i think

wonder chrome comes with a sealant, that is supposed to stop tarnish , its not a laquer its a wipe on liquid that seals the surface , apparantly
