Skyways on new school, yes or no?

Spent the night looking for white rims and hubs for my new wethepeople c.r.e.a.m in flat pearl teal  :smitten:

Given that a really cheap wheelset is around 120 quid and Skyways are half that can you get away with putting skyways on a new ride for park/street?









or will they just look daft :-\

Use metal wheels if you are going to ride it.

120 quid for cheap wheels?  Surely you can find a set cheaper?

You`ll prob struggle to put anything over a 28T sprocket on the frame so you`ll need 9T cassette rear hubbed Tuffs.But why get a a high end frame and put shite wheels on it?

Dont want shite wheels on it and not in any mad rush to get it built but i would like white rims, they seem to be unpopular with the kids   ;)  tried the usual sources but cant see much that i like, hence the thought of Skyways

Precisely.  Leave the Tuffs for a show bike / old school cruiser and run alloys on your rider.

Buy some second hand wheels, to suit your budget.  You don't have to go nuts - so long as they are straight.

Any straight set of alloys will do the job and get you rolling.  The rest is up to to you!

To be honest i'm not entirely shit hot on the park but i am surprised how well they have stood up, especially after that week in the bleach  ;) :D

They will hold up ok (without much "peg" action) but alloys roll so much better.
And they are lighter, better braking etc

Tuffs are great for a beach cruiser though, and they do look good.

Pegs used to murder tuffs back in the day.  Those alloy hubs were pathetic.

I ran a prolite 9t cassette hub and it was very good, they put out some quality stuff at good prices, just not one of the cool brands with the kids.

I'm running Prolite hubs on sun city lite camo rims, £75 complete from bmx city.

For the money, they are great, the hubs are `semi sealed' loose ball with a dust shield, but I only ride in the dry so its not an issue ( I don't have to do a paper round in all weather anymore!!)

The prolite rims on the £70 wheel set look good too. and the anno colours look good.

Driver clicks, but no noisier than an old freewheel!
