freshly stripped quad
« on: June 03, 2006, 06:51 PM »
Spent the day stripping off remaining paint, applying hammerite rust-remover, sanding with 1200 wet & dry and wirewool, and finally an autosol polish.
Polishing was probably unneccesary, as it'll no doubt be blasted before painting, but I wanted to see how shiny I could get the frame & forks.
I'm almost tempted to go for a clearcoat, but there are dark patches in the metal (discolouration rather than rust) which wouldn't allow me to do a perfect job. Paint I think:

All the external rust is removed, but I see some way down inside the seat-tube. Any reason to try and remove it? I can't see it being a problem during the painting process..

Leave it , make sure the blast is a soft media , as you dont want a mega  frosted pitted surface

Thanks, will do.
I'd better be thinking about getting a sticker set. And the fork dropouts welded.

if its gonna be powdered it wont need any blasting
if its gonna be sprayed make sure a good etch primer goes on first

looks good though! nice frameset

Thanks for the advice.
I can remember being at this same stage with it 20 years ago.
On that occasion it was a down to the shops for a couple of cans of white hammerite spraypaint  :)
