Currently building up a Raleigh burner, was going to be for me but cant justify damaging it , so im going to hand it down to my son once its finished, which leaves a void that needs to be filled.

So searching on ebay i found a Haro frame that had the seat post jammed in the seatpost tube, £10 later it was mine. There are various ways to un stick a seat post, so in order of easiness (damage limitation) I tackled it. First off, clamped in a vice and liberal amounts of GT85 (like WD40 but miles better), then try to twist it. This didnt work, so an electric heat gun to heat up the seatpost tube, still no movement, this is with me and the boss twisting the frame in the vice. :mmm:
Next up was proper heat with a butane torch. still nothing as the seatpost tube is steel and the seatpost is Aluminium which expands more than the steel so it jammed up more. :doh:
Next I cut off the top of the seatpost and used a hacksaw blade to cut down inside the seatpost, half an hour later still nothing.

so final resort was clamp it in a machine vice and use a pillar drill to drill the seatpost out, which worked :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Then ream it to get a smooth finish. :love:

Next up I will be sourcing some forks and will slowly build the bike up.
Also made some adaptors as the older wheels have a 10mm axle and the drop outs on the rear of this frame are 14mm.

thanks mate, i subsequently found out that you can buy the adaptors off ebay, still , least mine were free. did have an issue of trying to take too much material off in one go and the milling cutter spat the component out.

And you may be able to buy the adapters but it's more gratifying doing it yaself

Bendycat, I'd only do that on my own bike because if I broke something or damaged it I would be cool about it, if it was someone else Id be gutted and feel bad and have to face them and say sorry but............

Good skills, fabricating your own parts is way better than off the shelf. Is that frame a Diamondback Joker?

No Mate , its a Haro frame. Just getting some more bits added to it and hopefully within 2 weeks I should be up and running, its not going to be the shiniest or have the best trick bits on it, its going to be kinda rat look (ish) . I did some more bits on my son's bike tonight, had some brake levers done at CCA and fitted some ACS Z rims to it. To be honest I'll probably put the Z rims on the Haro and put some light alloy weinmann rims on this burner. I was going to put skyways on but , it didnt seem to work in my head so will be as a spare set for the Haro.

The Ones on the bike are ACS Z rims. the skyways are on the floor, youve got me worried here thinking that they arent proper ones. It says Raleigh on them , they seem genuine what else should i be looking for?

Theyre differenyt so I have been led to believe, not as strong as Skyway tuffs. Got some on their way to me now

Update on my bike, Massive thanks to Simon and Chris at Fox's Cycles in Colne , big up massive and ting , whatever that means. Very happy , now just got to get out there and ride it, none of your ornamental BMX, this is going to get ridden. Be prepared for some pictures of injuries lol
