Today Colony BMX have gone into liquidation 

This follows a continuing trend of firms going bankrupt , after they've had the "Kiss of death bike  review" by a certain Mark Webb of Darwen  :D

He was trying to flip one of the big boxes at the arc the other night he kept over rotating and took some right slams.... kept getting up and having another go...  :shocked:

We we're joking with him that he was gonna break it, it lasted 2 more days....  ;D

He'd have carried on riding if it hadn't snapped...  :(

Borrowed a frame and was up n running 2 days later, would have been sooner but it took that long to find someone daft enough to lend him a frame...  ;D

Yikes. Seen a bloke snap a PK Ripper in the same place. Front triangle off when pulling out the gate at Crewe :shocked:

Aye, I saw and heard that one go at Crewe. I've seen a handful go since I've been back riding - probably not that many considering how many are used regularly.
I've never, ever broken a frame :daumenhoch: . Hubs, spokes, rims, chains, cranks, BBs, seats, chains, pedals, bars, chains, freewheels, sprockets, chains, tensioners, bearings and more chains all the time but never a frame (probably just cursed myself ::))

At the end of the day Stress fractures, metal fatigue, corrosion, heat distortion will crack a frame/bars/forks/crank etc etc......if you go big expect your parts to fail quicker or if you’re a chunky Northern Monkey....expect the same  :daumenhoch:

Ash Davey's Ripper that broke at Crewe looked to be powdercoated, I'm pretty sure that the heat from the powdercoating process would have affected the heat treated alloy used on those frames, I'm sure someone will know for sure but I am told that owt above 120 oC aint good for heat treated aircraft alloy.

That is true diggler as you could artificially age the aluminium if its a 7000 or a 6061 (which incidently bike frames are mostly). Its actually done post welding of alloys as the final part of a 3 stage heat treatment process, where the material is held at a temperature for a given time then cooled under controlled conditions to improve the material strength and im sure this wouldnt happen at a powder coaters during teh curing process. I myself would not recommend powder coating of aluminium bike frames if you intend to ride them hard. No problems with low alloy steels though of which chromoly is part of. :daumenhoch:

Bang on the money there Simon, if you heat the alloy up, it has already been solution treated and age hardened, raising back up to temperature again, would anneal the Aluminium ,taking away the  heat treatment and making it go very soft , when I used to make aircraft parts in the RAF we would work harden the aluminium components and then anneal them in the oven to make them soft again so it could be worked more. Sorry fot the essay.  ::)
