« on: October 23, 2011, 05:43 PM »
im after changing my 39t chainring to hopefully something smaller even a small amount would be good as it looks like a dinner plate.. :LolLolLolLol:
im sure the rear freewheel is 14t so what the smallest i can put on there without changing the freewheel..
i suppose even if i was able to change whats there now would be good enough for the moment...links would be great help if you can..looking to make a straight swap if possible...
this is the one i want to change..

lastly can i use a half link chain on this bike? dont want to spend 30 odd quid and it doesnt work..
thanks for your time chaps...Paul.. :daumenhoch:

To be honest fella, 39's the smallest you can go and not lose speed/acceleration. You could prolly drop to a 36 although it'd be soft as hell.

Have a look at the chart here:

2.75's the ideal ration, higher and harder to pedal but more speed, lower easier to pedal but low top speed.

:) 38/14 should be an OK gearing.A half-link chain (1/8 size) should also work fine.I`ve used Gusset Slink chains (cost under £20) for ages with no probs...
