My first, and last S&M build. *Almost finished. New Pics*
« on: October 20, 2011, 02:32 PM »
I FINALLY got round to starting this build. Its the last (non rider) S&M I plan to build, and its also the first one I ever built.

Ive had this frame for over 20 years. I got it direct from "S&M" (Moellers tiny one room flat) in March 1991. Its been borrowed by several people but has been sat in my shed for at least half of that time. Its been patched up, modified, ridden hard, and never looked so good! Just gotta put the other bits on it now.

That's come back well  :daumenhoch: I can spot a lot of rewelding & is that a gusset added on the d/t?

That's a cracker Alex - remember seeing that front cover of BMX Now! and wanting the bike (complete co-incidence but we shared the same hairstyle back then........)

Great that you've resto'd it - nice one on getting the 990 lugs off as well  :daumenhoch:

I tried to take pics of some of the cool bits but the gloss black paint meant they didnt come out.

- Tripple drop out on the right side (They are 2-stuck-together dropouts and i fished a third one out of the bucket and put it on my frame)
- 990 mounds added (removed before re-spray)
- Hole drilled in seat tube for brake cable
- T-bar top plate added to right dropout (removed before respray)
- Dents put on the chain stays for chainring clearance (both for RHD and LHD)
- Gussets put on the seatpost/toptube (both sides)
- Gusset added on the Headtube/downtube (it didnt have any gussets at all when new)
- Seat stay and Chain stay brace both crushed from running Pitbull brake
- Awful welding done on seat clamp area and dropouts (when i lent the frame to someone) but all ground off for respray

I made that plate cos I was usually the ONLY BMXer on the ramps, and I'd get a bit of stick from the "cool skaters".

That is more or less the build Im going for. Ive still got most of those bits (or similar replacements)  :daumenhoch:

Must have been hard Dan being the perfectionist you are.

Great bit of history Alex :daumenhoch:

was a pleasure to paint it for you

Just had a good look at that poor rusted frame with the shitty frame pad zip-tied on, looks like an aged mill town artisan that could talk a glass eye to sleep. Seems a shame to clean and restore it now.....
Dammit Alex, abuse it all over again   :2gunsfiring_v1:

Absolutely Killer Brother.

While the 80's were all about fashion over function, the 90's were all about function over fashion with some humour thrown in (the plate is funny as fck).

That bike has got the most 'Soul Points' I have seen for a long time. Genius to leave the dings in.

GGitM should be last weeknd in Jan, plenty of time for everyone to build.

This ain't No X-Factor made up story Brothers.

This is a real story about a real bike and a real Soul Rider that was still riding when the corporates were saying BMX was dead.

S&M and Standard(although I hate to admit it) strived to make frames and parts that lasted whilst the corporates were selling flourescent Cornetos that snapped.

you can't buy soul.

Keep the Faith. L
