My deepest condolences to his family but I find the quote "Jamie was very responsible and if he had seen the sign he would never have used the track without a helmet" very hard to agree with, infact I find alot of that article hard to agree with, the fence was never knee high and the idea that someone would use a helmet to gently cruise around the streets but then take it off to sprint at some sizeable jumps, solely beacause there wasn't a big sign saying dont do it.........that's simply ridiculous.

RIP young Jamie, no age or way to go

No age to die , but in all fairness the youths of today don't seem to be bothered about safety , i was a a skate/BMX park the other week with my lads and the amount of youths not wearing helmets was very worrying especially on how they were riding plus there was plenty off large signs telling you to wear a helmet ,
Life .......... Your here for a good time not a long time

I remember James telling me about this,it's very sad indeed :(

I dont think any amount of signage, etc would have prevented this, apart from a fookin huge fence and a locked gate,no one wants that :(

That's terrible  :'( I agree some of that article sounds a bit suspect but that's just the way the press puts things across I think. Like a lot of riders, wearing a lid probably didn't even get a second thought.

i think like a lot of kids think accidents wont happen to them , also is it "cool" not to wear a helmet ? , RIP a terrible accident

a sad end to a young life but to be fair to jamie how many of us wore lids all the time when we were young?
it was very rare that i wore one at romford or any where else for that matter and nither did many of you going by the old pics that get posted up.
i'm not saying that it is right not to wear one, i wear one all the time when i race or practice now (and body armour) but when your young you think you are indestructable.

rip Jamie

Deepest condolences to the lads family and RIP Jamie. I suppose it's 'there for the grace of god' as we all used to do the same when we were young, I just hope we can change kids attitudes to wearing helmets.

I see it all the time at the Blackpool Track. Same conversation :-

"You want to get yourself a helmet"

"I've got one"

"Why don't you wear it?"

"It doesn't look cool"

No amount of signage will make them wear one  :(   You need to make it cool to start wearing one.

:) Heard tons of excuses for not wearing a lid-best was,"I`ve got a really nice fullface at home but my Mum won`t let me wear it at the track in case it gets scratched." We have 2 signs at the entrance to the track already but if people wilfully ignore them then IMO their own fault if they get injured. The mother of a kid who witnessed the accident tried stirring up trouble for us but she still lets him ride with no lid & no brakes on his bike...

The kids dont have brakes anymore, let alone helmets!

I always wore my helmet at the track BITD but, yeah, never anywhere else! Terrifying. "But by the grace of god go we"

Poor lad.
