Ready brek mongoose pads
« on: October 15, 2011, 09:24 PM »
I have some mongoose ready brek pads, How many packs of ready brek did you have to eat to get a set of these bitd.
Or are these from a competition that i believe was by mongoose / ready brek bitd.
Also if you had them on your bike bitd would all your mates have laughed at you.

Wow are they really that rare, the stem pad looks to of had a sticker on it which is no longer there rather than printed like the bar pads.

So did they do the same for the raleigh burners aswell, would be good to see what else you got, and what were the bikes that you would have won 8)

Hi bobafett,  If i decide to sell, i think you will be the right man to have them, but for the moment i will keep hold of them.
do you know anymore about them, like what bike they came on etc etc,  :daumenhoch:
cheers.

Nice one mate  :daumenhoch:

The pads came on mongoose bikes that were given away as prizes from a promotional competition that ready brek ran in the 80's

The bike featured in the adverts and on the promotional packs (ridden by Andy Ruffell) was an Ammaco Mongoose Wirewheel but when the bikes came to be given as prizes they were Ammaco Mongoose Grand Prix  :daumenhoch:

I am building a replica of the Ruffell bike in the advert  :)

No mate.
I think ready brek's company choice was based more around the rider and not who he rode for.
Wasn't Andy ruffell the uk no.1 at the time and also making regular appearances on BMX beat?

A bit more info where i got these pads, 4 or 5 years ago a mate of mine asked if i still had any of my bmxs or parts left from when i was a kid, as he had just got a raleigh burner to rebuild.
I said all i had left was my mongoose grand prix as all my other stuff (several sets of wheels skyways ogks z rims cw bars seats brakes etc) had all been skipped when we had a new shed.
 :tickedoff: built.
The grand prix was in a poor state plus i had changed most of the original parts when i was a kid as you did.
Anyway i thought i would look for another grand prix to get parts to rebuild my original one.
All i kept seeing was just f+f  or bikes without original components.
Then along came one being described as original and only used lightly a few times, and stored in a house for most of its 26 years, but for the last few years it was stored in a shed and had now started to rust.
Well i got the bike, but in the pictures there were no pads on it, so i asked if he had any pads for it as pads were mentioned in the advert.
The guy replyed with the pads he has are not the normal mongoose ones but ready brek ones, ah ok i thought atleast it has some pads.
So fast forward to this thread when i asked about the pads.

So i am now thinking could this grand prix be one of the bikes won from the competition, its a long shot i know but maybe  :coolsmiley:
The bike really is in superb original survivor condition complete with reflectors chainguard, I have the original cheng shin tyres for it, I put the comp3s on so i could ride it.
It did have a fair amount of suface rust i but managed to get most of this off, just leaving some tiny pitting.
Well there you go is it or isnt it who knows.
