Rat Look - like it or loathe it!
« on: September 24, 2011, 12:39 PM »
posted this on another thread,

closest i've seen is this bit more contrived and some pretty clever mods

it's a trend that's been around for a long time, nothing new as kids in the states have been copying hot rods and since the late 40's/50's

it's a pure marmite thing   :LolLolLolLol:

found some more pics

heres my work in progress, built for the endo competition on BW

I like bikes and VWs with a worn look - I especially like survivors

However, I HATE it when parts are left to go rusty.  Why would you want a rusty car/bike?

Phew. I was wondering when DSD was going to post in this thread. That T1 is SO nice. Have you got pics of that Rust decal S&M you had (didnt you bury it in the garden for a while?).

I think there is a difference between a "rat rod" car .... and something that is rusty, and a bit crap. Those old Fords and VWs look so good because they are great looking vehicles, that are worth quite a bit, but have that "survivor" look. A rustly old Micra or Allegro AINT the same.

Also, I dont think a "messy" build BMX is Rat look. Or most of my bikes are "Rat look"! haha.

I dont mind the rat look if its a tatty rider but the more contrived ones are bobbins. Purposely putting tatty parts on a bike, or worse stil distressing parts, is just naff.  :yahoo_silent:

Dark Sunday, how did that stem get like that?
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

some cack handed fookwit tried to strip the ano off it with a bastard file, i bought it of ebay for like £5, one side was beyond repair so i pummeled the fook out of it for half and hour then polished the saveable parts,

i've always loved rust, particularly on a pushbike, nothing like a well oiled and maintained machine that shows its age with pride,
the frame belonged to T1 team rider paul buchanan and luckily it came as it is now,its a complete custom frame, the only one ever made, seems a shame to do anything to it i guess,
its here on cycleexif too,
http://www.cycleexif.com/terrible-one-custom

alex,
i fooked around with the s&m trying different stuff ro rust it, i did indeed bury it for a few weeks,  :LolLolLolLol:
i've got a T1 barcode malyon on the go now....

I know I've said it before but that T1 is a corker of a bike, wouldn't change anything on it and one of only a few new-school bikes with enough character for me to really lust after.

Some great bikes and vehicles in this thread   :daumenhoch:

Really love those new school bikes, would have one if I thought I could do it any justice.

Thanks for the comments about the Ratleigh, it's currently entered in Burnerworld BOTM comp if you happen to be a member and you want to vote, don't want to canvas for votes or anything   :LolLolLolLol:
