i'd heat the spindle as it might cause some damage to the chrome on the arm.  seen someone do it on youtube where he heated it with a blow torch then dipped it in ice water and repeated that a few times  :daumenhoch:

I've had this before:

Buy a long pedal spanner, put the spanner and the crank down so that they make a upside down V (^) raised from the floor you might need to get someone to hold them or prop them with their foot.

press down with your foot on the top of the 'V'

Remember that pedals always tighten in a forward motion, so that when you pedal the pedal is kept tight.

That means that the non-drive side will untighten clockwise if you are looking at it side on.

Think i may try the heat route ..........

Whats the worst case scenario here .......... I end up with an Andy Patterson JMC with suntour XC's on or even worse lose a crank set  :'(

try coke~a~cola - it will eat the rust and not just slip past it - half an hour in and then try the long crank spaner on the floor and put weight on it  ;)

You are undoing it by turning it clockwise Craig?
Vice on the spindle, rubber hammer on the arm otherwise.

Vice on the spindle, rubber hammer on the arm otherwise.

Good idear

Vice in spindle scaffolding bar over crank = leverage

If the spindle slips round weld a bolt or bar across it.

If You heat the spindle then the spindle will expand

It's the crank you need to expand so the spindle comes out

Ring a local Engineering company they may be able to freeze it out for you (costs but works better than heat) or get it drilled out by somebody who knows what they are doing
Why oh why do I still buy kids bikes!
