Drill (better if you know someone with a pillar drill)

A steady hand

and a rubber hammer  :daumenhoch:

Oh and WD40

I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

If it protrudes from the stem, an external stud extractor would do the job.

Get a hold of some spline bits.

The one for VW driveshafts is just a fraction bigger than a 6mm allen key - you should be able to get this spline bit at a good car accessory shop.

Get this VW driveshaft spline bit, and hammer it into the the allen bolt.

Also before you do it,  pour a kettle of boiling water over it - the heat may help you out.

So the bolt didn't protrude, but you managed to hacksaw it off?

Or - you hacksawed through the stem?????

Is there a bunch of stem junk stuck in the fork's steerer tube now?

:LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

This is what I'm left with on the forks

If anyone knows or can get the remainder of the stem out for me
I would be eternally grateful

Would like to keep the forks original to the frame
Or should I just get another set

Lee  :D

Hammer the shit out of it from underneath.

Be sure that the drift you use fits nicely in the steerer tube.

Maybe give it a tap at the top too, to break the seal.

I wish you had tried my spline tool method in the allen bolt. You could have used the stem itself to shift the shaft!

But you could start by whacking the bolt itself - maybe push the wedge bit down and free off the steerer tube.

Good luck . . . !

Wrap some insulating tape round the threads to protect them a bit.

Hammer the fook out of what's left of the stem wedge downwards, if it drops down drill a hole through the shaft, put a bolt in it, hold shaft in vice, bar through forks and turn.
