What were early mid school wheels? , sad to say i know very little about what was out there due to loosing touch abit through the 90's , looking for something for a freestyler but want to try to get away from 48's  :-\   ?

it was only 48s till way into "new school", and from the late 80s till well into the mid 90s it was just Peregrine super pro's. Chrome rims for the braking, sealed hubs with replacement "Standard" or King axles. Almost no exception.

nice one  :daumenhoch: was thinking the same , remember 48's comming out very late 80's along with the giro,  they both caused a big leap forward in riding , i used araya aeros , but had the spokes tightend right up, mainly cos i never the cash for the perigrins  :'(,   trying to shed a bit of weight of the sport , not particulary bothered about keeping things era correct so been looking at some of the new school sets , fronts aren't a problem but looks like i'm going to have to build up a rear,

'Ello brother

Alex is exactly right 48's were the only wheels that anybody bothered with. They were a massive step forward in strenght and lasted much longer than 36's.

Peregrines were the ones but most of us were skint in the 90's so even cheap sets from a cheap complete would do.

I have a set of silver 7x copy 48's off a cheap GT complete on my dirt bike theyb look the part and are suprisingly strong and light.

Also in the 90's riders would sometimes run a front Skyway or OGK. this looked odd and unbalanced but so right for rejecting the pretty images that the big companies sold in the 80's.

Keep the Faith. L

araya super 7x came in a 36 hole option too. they have a yellow sticker on them of a tiger and an arrow coming out of it. so cussing rare now i doubt there are any sets left and im very reluctant to sell mine. the chrome leaps off the rim at the first sign of moisture but i love em :smitten:

Jim... when I got my Sport 'race ready' I was surprised how lite it was with bits stripped down  :daumenhoch:

I've got a Peregrine HP 48 rear wheel ( non sealed hub ) hanging in the shed... its far from minty but we could do a deal on it on the 5th if you are interested  :daumenhoch:
