next build starting
« on: July 31, 2011, 03:27 PM »
just collecting bits for my next build , a Rickman freestyler  8)

i have chrome frame with no standers , but white forks with standers ,  Now the dilemma is do i cut the fork standards off , OR get some made up and fitted to the frame ??
i think when rickmans were new you could get them with or without ,
also the Bars ive got coming ( from thewinsta  :)) are white , so i dont know whether to get the frame powdered white because the chrome needs redoing anyway,
OR getting the whole lot chrome plated F&F and bars ??
powder is the cheapest option by far theres a place local to me which will charge about £60 , and they are good ,theyve just done my Haro
and i reckon i'm going to be looking about £200 for chrome plating , BUT , HOW NICE ARE CHROME RICKMANS  8) 8)
think ive answered my own question  :D
either way its going to be with blue so either chrome and blue or with and blue

I think although it's a shame , the fork standers will have to go,
I don't think it's right to have them without any rears

if your going to do it - get someone like 'sawall' to remove them carefully so they can be put back on if needed..

Unless your a welder/engineer of course - then crack on..  ;)

Do what you want Mike, it's your bike :daumenhoch:

Have you thought about getting just the forks chromed and trying to save the og chrome on the frame? Just that there are plenty of threads about restoring chrome on here, read Bendycat's for a start.

Powder just isn't as cool in my opinion, but re-chroming has to be done sooooooo carefully as there are horror stories out there. Oh, and chrome is tougher. And looks better.

Nice brakes by the way - I see they landed safely :LolLolLolLol:

Spen

ps - did I mention chrome looked better? >:D
Still limping......

Yep cheers spen , brakes are great cheers :)
When I say I'll cut the standers off , I don't mean me butchering
em off ;) I will get someone proper to do em
I think the chrome on the frame may be past help , but I am going
to give it a go ,
And your right it's GOT to be chrome :)

I think it would be daft to grind away an original feature of a rare old school bike.

keep them ifits a bike to look at.
if you are even thinking of riding it, cut the fookrs off, theyve had my shoes off several times.

Thought it was the rears that had your shoes off ,
I haven't got any on the frame , hence wanting to cut fork ones off
to match :)

I would leave as it is.

Back in the day,you could order Rickman fs frames as you liked, with or without pegs,so yours will be correct.

Love Rickmans me i just finished a chrome one will post pics when i got more time :daumenhoch:
