Help! Why does my bike do this????
« on: July 28, 2011, 08:04 PM »
When I'm riding my Streetbeat now and again as I pedal there's a click noise and the pedal drops like the chains come off or something?? Not sure if it's the crank or freewheel and it seems to happen mainly when I pedal hard from almost standstill. Any ideas guys or anyone else had the problem, would appreciate yr opinions?

sounds like the freewheel is missing a couple of teeth, or if your running a 3piece crank check its all tight

you might have overtightened the crank if its one piece with looseball  :-\
take it apart and have a look at the bearing cage as it could be bent

You'll probably need a freewheel tool, or take it to a bike shop who'll charge a couple of quid to take it off

Grip the freewheel in a vice, tighten it up until the outer layer forces itself onto the inner section. dont tighten too much or youll damage the hub. test  the pressure by spinning the wheel, which will be sat in your viuce like a steering wheel. chances are, by the time it starts getting difficult to turn, IE before you fook your hub, it will have given up and spun off the hub. thn chuck it across the shed like a ninja. 10 points if you get it to stich into the wall.
