80's GT Pro Bars v 90's GT Pro Bars
« on: July 14, 2011, 01:22 PM »
Does anyone know the dimensional difference between the two

Also is there some with an oval bar.................. ???

Also are they all stamped with the "old school" GT logo
I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

I've looked at the "bars" section on BMX Museum and there are 80's ones with knurling, some with non and some with sectioned knurling  :crazy2:

I've seen the 90's ones have the oval cross bar  :daumenhoch: ........but are they the same size as the 80's ones  ???

Cheers Bud  :4_17_5:

Speaking to a few old riders they all sing their praises that they are the best rider bars I was just wondering if I could get a cheaper set of 90's Pro Bars as appose to the Hoooooofin price you pay for the 80's ones  :idiot2:

the "oval" 90s bars tend to be a lot cheaper than the earlier one's, i paid £30 for mine at MK last year  :daumenhoch:

GT bars from the 90's are also round crossbar and stamped GT (horizontally ) in a circle rather than  G (vertically) the 80's way
                                                                                                                                      T

They did an oval crossbar in 1986 i'm almost sure too un knurled

Basically Any un crossknurled GT bars are from 86 and before

Most of the bars I see for sale on here and Ebay are around 1990 but advertised and stickered as 80's

I can't be arsed commenting everytime they come up  :-\

chris, the oval bars i have came as standard on the 1990 pro series that i have so i guess they still made them at that time, not to sure of the exact time line of what came when though ?

Pro's were 9" rise XL's 10" rise and the expert were 8" rise Pierre  ;)

Yeah Andy I hear what your saying my friend ,neither of us are wrong ,, just there were a good few differences throught the ten year period from 82 to 92 , unknurled , straight knurled  oval crosbar ,Cross knurled, wide round crossbar  and oval crossbar again in that order I'd say  :crazy2:

but basically the same dimensions for Pro bars throughout the time only difference in size denotes a expert or XL's
