ASCO - anyone got any info?
« on: July 13, 2011, 01:45 PM »
afternoon peeps

so last night I picked up an Asco Pro Turbo frame from hutchman, who very kindly helped me get the headset/BB in (cheers dave  :daumenhoch:)

have had a bit of a google and found some on the bmxmuseum, from the shape of the dropouts it looks like it'a an '83 - which is good news as the parts I'm putting on it were originally going on the superfox frame that I found a crack in at the weekend

trouble is I can't find any pics of how the decals were originally - they're long gone so I have a slight dilemma..

- run it without decals for a shiny clean look
- try and find the original decal design
- go custom (especially if the proper design looks rubbish!)

If anyone has any info on these please let me know - it's a tad short, but a very nice looking frame and doesn't look a bad match with the akisu forks either I reckon

cheers for any help

griff

not yet - since I moved house I can't find the battery charger for the camera  :-[

but it looks like one of these

there's an 82 one on there too (with slightly clearer decals) but from memory I think the dropouts are maybe a bit longer than mine

they look very different to the ones on the single tube bike in my earlier post and the 82 one here http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/asco/38613/4 (can't post the pic)
can't see any of them close up enough really, but thinking custom might have to be the way forward..

now should I badge it as an asco..? will have to have a think on that one

(thanks Jay btw - no need to get designing just yet though  :daumenhoch:)

Hello Griff.

I got one in the loft fella ( Asco pro turbo ) and I'm pretty sure its got all the original stickers on it so when i'm next up there i'll dig it out and take some snaps for ya  :daumenhoch:. I got it sent over from Holland where i was told they were pretty popular and affordable, Im sure they were made there. Maybe the Dutch version of the burner  :-\ Lovely looking frame with that PKish bottom tube. Ive also got a set of Asco pro bars and a Asco power disc but strangely i dont think they ever made forks :idiot2:.

Si :)

just found this googling
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NOS-NOS-NOS-ASCO-PRO-TURBO-MK-1-BMX-FRAME-/160604186433?pt=AU_Sport_Cycling_Bikes&hash=item2564c16741
now mine had the remnants of one of the decals here (mk1) on the downtube, but was seriously fooked
quite liked the 'futuristic' logo on the one I posted, but not keen on this one tbh

Dutch lion brand Bmx. I know a shop in Belgium that has a few nos ones still. Got loads of chainrings from them, seemed to be in every second bike I bought over there.

do you know what other bits they made by any chance?
Just found a chainring on a dutch bmx shop site - looks a bit like the tufneck one I'm putting on it
They also had one of these  :D

Griff fella, my one has the same decals as the n.o.s one mate but show signs of wear and tear so you'd be better off using the n.o.s one for refrence. I'll take a photo of the pro bars next time i'm up in the loft though bud..

Si :)

change of direction  ::)
got a silverfox F+F coming my way at MK (where I'll be building it up for Sunday racing) and so am unfortunately going to have to sell the Asco
shame as it's a nice looking & rare frame but there's no fooking way mrs griff is going to let me have 'another bloody BMX in the house' - at least not for some time  ;D

will bung up a for sale thread as soon as I've finished gently rubbing it with peek and taken some pics n that

but thanks to all for your help  :daumenhoch:
