One accident & one close call.
« on: July 01, 2011, 08:51 PM »
I was going too tell a story of my ride today. It went along the lines of "How new is not always best etc." Oh dear.  :LolLolLolLol:

Anyway...
House full of kids & mothers so I decided to go for a ride, weather was nice, so took my new-ish school Supercross for a spin.

Everything was going fine until the bridge by Bourneville Lane pig station, stood up to pedal, bang.
Chain snapped, over the bars & hole in me knee.  >:(
2 mile walk home.

Not to be deterred, I dragged my old PK out of the loft, put air in tyres, checked brakes & off I went.  :)

The old girl rode like a dream, according too google earth we clocked up 16 miles.  A few little jumps & manuals, a few admiring glances, mostly from 30 something males unfortunatley.  :-*

About a mile from home I started thinking about how good the PK is & why she will never be sold...

These are the photos I was going to share regarding how new is not always better etc.

Devil Supercross minus chain  >:D

Old faithful PK looking good

Just as I start feeling smug as to how good the PK is, about a mile from home remember, she starts making a creaking noise, but makes it home.  8)

So back to my original plan, I take my photos, Supercross first, minus chain, PK Ripper next. Just then I notice, the cause of the creaking?

4 of the 5 chainring bolts have disappeared. Talk about lucky.

That could have been twice OTB, so girls, check your bit & bobs for tightness before you ride.

When I first built it up, my mate, who worked in the bike shop that supplied most of the bike, suggested that seat.
He was not wrong, for some reason it works really well. :idiot2:

I had it in mind Stu for any of the Brum rides, Sundays are out though, kids swimming lessons.  ::)

It's a bitch when a chain goes on you ,straight over the bars everytime  :crazy2:

Done it myself on a starthill racing ,,very hard slam on my head. Always run a recent-ish decent chain on your riders

" nice looking bikes there mate ,, is the Ripper alot older  ???

I thought the Supercross looks like an early noughties or earlier  one and the Ripper a mid to late nineties  :)

both external 1 1/8  headsets and Vbrake models  :daumenhoch:

No they are not inherently weak, stronger than normal chains in my experience (and I break/wear chains out all the time). I think any chain can break given the right circumstances.
